Scenario: A public information services company was looking to accelerate its growth and diversify its business base while capitalizing on the global need for information services. It wanted to do this by expanding its services into high growth markets thereby changing its revenue and profit mix.
Engagement:An HBA partner was engaged to identify new markets, define a strategic plan to capture growth in those markets and to implement the plan. A fast-growing, fragmented information service segment was quickly identified and a "roll up" acquisition strategy was developed to establish a dominant position in the marketplace. This led the company to finance over $100 million in order to acquire the target companies. The scope of work included locating, negotiating, completing and integrating the key acquisitions.
Results:The company acquired 12 regional competitors and built the leading national brand in this market. This strategy led to a growth of $300 million of shareholder value and positioned the company to capture additional growth in the marketplace.
