Listening to clients and their stakeholders is a critical first step to
ensure we understand the scope of the issue, timing and management’s desire to solve it.
Since project scope drives the amount of data needed, this phase is highly
customizable. But with larger engagements, it may be important to conduct a market opportunity
scan, a competitive analysis and an analysis of internal client operations including financials,
product development plans, marketing & sales operations as well as administrative operations.
Our approach is to limit the Listen and Discovery phases so that we understand the landscape
well enough to develop solid recommendations, but without eating up management’s time.
Once data is gathered, we'll analyze the information at hand and run our
analytics models to develop our assessment. This includes alternative solutions developed with
analyses and evaluations of each potential solution that serves to support the eventual recommendation.
Once we have thought through the issues, situation and alternatives, we’ll recommend
a course of action we feel best addresses the client’s objectives. We’ll say what we would do
if we were risking our reputations. Pros and cons of each alternative are presented to validate the advice.
One of the differences with Harvest is that we roll up our sleeves to help
implement our recommendations. Since we come from industry where we have had strategic, operational,
